And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this.

Esther 4:14

Do you even know that Esther is a book in the Bible? I will be really honest, until a couple of days ago, I didn’t. And this is coming from someone who loves her Bible. It’s one of those short books that is buried in the Old Testament and I just haven’t made it all the way through the Old Testament yet.

So, if you have never heard of Esther or don’t know the story, you are not alone.

Here is a little snapshot of Esther

Esther’s parents die, and she is raised by her cousin Mordecai. Esther is beautiful and eventually ends up becoming the queen to King Xerxes even though she is a Jew.

King Xerxes has a noble named Haman. Haman gets his panties in a wad when Mordecai would not bow down to him and so he asks the king to issue a decree to destroy all the Jews.

The king did not know that Mordecai or Esther were Jews and so he told Haman to do as he pleased. (Is it weird that Mordecai knows so little about his wife?! I am going to go with, yes. Apparently there wasn’t a lot of emotional connection there.)

At this news, Mordecai was outraged and started doing some pretty crazy stuff. He tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes, weeping and wailing around town eventually ending up at the King (and Queen’s) gate.

Knowing that Esther is now the Queen to the King, he asks her to intervene, to speak to the King and get this decree changed.

At first, Ester declines. It is against the rules, apparently, for even the Queen to go into the King’s court without him calling for her. (Seriously?! Again, not the tightest of relationships)

And that is when Mordecai says something that I think we all need hear today and everyday.

What You Need to Hear

He says to Esther….

“Who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?”

Do you hear what he is saying?

He is saying, “Do you realize that you are where you are for a reason? It is no coincidence that you are in your position in such a time as this. Do you understand how important this is?”

Today, I am reminding myself of the very same thing.

“Amy, do you realize but that you are created for such a time as this? Do you realize how important this is? You have come to be Eli and Emme’s mother and Mark’s wife for such a time as this. You are your parent’s daughter and your brother’s sister for such a time as this. You are a child of God for such a time as this. You are in this world, meeting these people, in this place today for a time such as this. In good and bad, you were created for such a time as this.”

Don’t miss it.  Remind yourself today of the same thing.  We all have precious moments, moments that won’t happen again, happening today, happening now.

It is so easy to get caught up in our to do lists, or the urgent but not important, or the goals that we set for ourselves

But if we can step back and sit in silence and look around, you can sense the hand of God. We can see the moments ahead and know that it is the moments of today that are of the utmost importance, that we were created for such a time as this.  In good and bad times or in times of struggle, we are created to be there and to fill that spot.

Big or small, the checker at Wal-mart or your own kids, being there for a birth or being there to share a cup of coffee, smiling at a stranger or hugging your mom, giving to an orphanage or helping your neighbor, going to the grocery store or going to Africa.   There are people every where.  And every where there are people, there are people in need.

In my times of failure, in my times of struggle, when life seems too much, I am still called and still right where God wants me to be. Every day I can rise or I can fall.  I can love or hate.  I can be angry or forgive.  I can share the truth or hold it in.  I can be the light in someone’s life or I can keep to myself.  I can give or I can keep.   I can be courageous or I can live in fear.

Esther ends up rising. She realizes her God given opportunity to be courageous and give grace to her people because of the special place she was given in life.

Today, do I realize the special place I am given?

Today, do you realize the special place you are given?  Pause, ask yourself that again?  Where has God put you today?

No one else has the spot I have on this earth today and no one else has the spot you have on this earth today.  That is a BIG deal.  The ONLY deal.  The best and most daunting deal.

The question for today is will we rise and realize the precious gift that we have been given……to be created for such a time as this?  And when we realize the precious gift and seize the opportunity?
